As part of our Massey Ferguson Rebels Recall series, we ask our players about the most memorable matches they've played in.

This week we spoke with our resilient scrumhalf, Ryan Louwrens.

What was your most memorable match?

The Highlanders in Dunedin (Forsyth Barr Stadium) was my most memorable game for the Rebels so far (28 February Round 5).

Playing them at home ‘’ZOO’’ is a very hard place to walk away with the win, and it would be the Rebels first time in history that they have achieved that.

What was the build up like?

The build-up to the game was intense-we wanted to go there and win. The only difference this week was that we finally had a cross bar winner at our Captain’s Run - Gideon Koegelenberg.

After 4 rounds we had not had a winner and finally he hit the cross bar with a pinpoint kick. I do think little things like that can make a difference in the build-up to the game.

We knew all the students in Dunedin were going to be at the game in numbers-and we knew they were going to be loud.

The turning point?

The turning point in the game was in the 47 the minute.

We had a scrum 5 meters out from our own try line-under pressure-the forwards came up with a beastly scrum and won a penalty by pushing the Highlander’s scrum 5 meters back and winning a penalty.

I feel that gave us the upper hand.

Your Man of the Match?

The man of the match in the game was definitely Andrew Kellaway.

He was outstanding for the full 80 minutes. He had two long range tries, was brilliant in attack and defence.

Describe the post-game celebrations

After the game we went into the sheds. Everyone was so pleased and humble that we got this big win for the club.

We made history by winning this game. We all celebrated and had a beer and enjoyed each other’s company in the change room.

Definitely a day I’ll never forget!
