Melbourne Rebels starting prop Cabous Eloff has capped off an impressive Super Rugby Pacific campaign by re-committing with the Rebels on a new multi-year deal.

The new deal will see the fan favourite remain at the Rebels for at least the next two seasons, strengthening Melbourne’s front row depth.

Since arriving at the Stockade at the end of 2019, Eloff has quickly established himself as a regular feature in the Rebels' match day squad, with his work ethic and appetite for contact endearing him to his teammates and fans alike.

Hailing from Pretoria (South Africa), Eloff went on to play 10 games in his debut Super Rugby season at just twenty-years-old, before playing in every game of last year’s Super Rugby AU and Trans-Tasman tournaments.

In his third season with the Club, Eloff has developed into one of the Rebels' most important players, making 10 starts from 14 matches, while leading Melbourne in total tries scored (4) alongside Reece Hodge and Lukas Ripley.

The twenty-three-year-old credited the Rebels' strong culture and focus on player development as being the catalysts behind his re-commitment.

“I’m really stoked to be locked in for another two years with the Rebels,” said Eloff.

“It’s great to stay at a Club that looks after me and really has my best interests at heart.

“While we didn’t get the results we wanted this year, we need to keep working hard and staying positive, so I’m excited to keep pushing myself forward and becoming the best player and person I can be.”

Melbourne Rebels Head Coach Kevin Foote said it was great to retain another crucial member of his match day squad.

“Cabous is someone who has grown a lot since arriving in Melbourne, and someone we’ve invested a lot of time and effort in, so to have him re-sign and want to continue being an important part of what we’re building at the Rebels, it’s fantastic news,” said Foote.

“At just twenty-three-years-old, he’s got his best rugby ahead of him, so it’s very exciting that’s going to be in a Melbourne Rebels jersey."
