It's been an exciting twenty-four-hours for our Rebels Super W team, with Captain Ashley Marsters and rising star Laiema Bosenavulagi named in the Wallaroos squad for their upcoming games against Fiji and the New Zealand Black Ferns.
Marsters was outstanding in her first season as Captain of the Rebels Super W program, starting all five matches, leading from the front with her fearless style of play, powerful carries and relentless tackling.
A crucial member of the Wallaroos 2022 World Cup campaign, Marsters will be looking to add to her 17 appearances in the green and gold, as she continues to inspire female rugby players across the state.
Following in Marsters footsteps is Victorian prodigy, Laiema Bosenavulagi, who was one of the youngest players selected in the 32-player squad.
After rising through the ranks at Harlequins, Bosenavulagi set the Super W world on fire in 2023, asserting herself as one of the competitions most exciting props, playing all five matches, scoring two tries.
Melbourne Rebels Super W Head Coach, Jason Rogers, said it was a deserved reward for both his players.
"It's fantastic news for both players, our Club and supporters of Victorian women's rugby," said Rogers.
"I thought Ash had a standout season and was really consistent in her attack and defence, while Laiema was so impressive in her debut season being able to make such an impact on the field that it caught the attention of the Wallaroos.
"The Wallaroos have a fantastic coaching program plus some incredible players in the squad, so this experience being immersed in this high-performance environment will only strengthen Laiema as a player ahead of next season."
