The Rebels will face rivals the NSW Waratahs for their first trial ahead of Super Rugby Pacific.

The Melbourne Rebels have named their 32-man squad for tomorrow’s opening trial for the upcoming 2022 Super Rugby Pacific season.

The Rebels will travel to Sydney to tackle Weary Dunlop Shield rivals the NSW Waratahs.

Carrying a blend of youth and experience, Kevin Foote has named two sides for the first and second halves.

The opening XV will be led out by Michael Wells, with James Tuttle named as his deputy.

The second half side will be headlined by Wallaby Jordan Uelese and Joe Powell, who returns to the field following a strong first season with the Rebels in which the twenty-seven-year-old started every game of the Super Rugby AU and Trans-Tasman competitions.

Olympian Joe Pincus will make his XV’s debut, while talented youngsters Nick Jooste, Sef Fa’agase, Sam Wallis, Ben Tuiomanufili, Mason Gordon, and academy graduate Eyda Haisila, have all been rewarded for strong pre-seasons, named for their maiden appearance in the navy and red.

Melbourne Rebels Head Coach Kevin Foote said players were excited to return to the field following more than three months of pre-season training.

“We’ve had a fantastic pre-season,” said Foote.

“The facilities we’ve trained at have been incredible from MSAC to Harlequins and Moorabbin – our training has been unbelievable, and our players should be very proud of that.

“Sef Fa’agase has impressed all pre-season and Theo Fourie’s attitude has been great – he’s been desperate to prove himself and he’s going to get his chance on Thursday.

“Eyda Haisila came in early and has been great for us – the way he’s rocked up, the way he’s trained and just his whole attitude.

“We’re excited to be back and look forward to putting our hard work into action.”

Tomorrow’s trial will not be broadcast however Rebels Media will be providing behind the scenes coverage over Thursday and Friday.
