The Melbourne Rebels and Rugby Victoria are thrilled to announce the return of last year’s inaugural Victorian Club Series.
Supported by our proud partner Transport Accident Commission (TAC), four teams will be involved in the spring rugby extravaganza at Harlequin Rugby Club, with the Melbourne Rebels facing the Victorian Axemen in the day’s opening game at 2:30 pm, before the Victorian Women’s Seniors lock horns with a Victorian Women’s Barbarians side at 4 pm.
Rebels fans will have the opportunity to see some of the Club’s biggest off-season signings for the first time including Wallaby Lukhan Salakaia-Loto and Sevens star Darby Lancaster, plus a number of Rebels’ regulars including Ryan Louwrens, Cabous Eloff and David Feliuai.
The Victorian men’s and women’s sides boast the state’s premier club talent, with the day serving as valuable preparation ahead of their Australian Rugby Shield campaigns, kicking off in Brisbane on September 27.
The Victorian Women’s State Team, comprised of local Victorian Lindroth Cup players, are the reigning champions after remaining undefeated in the 2022 tournament held in Adelaide ; the first team to do so since the Axemen swept through the competition in 2007.

Before testing each other out on the field, the Rebels and Axemen will come together for a combined training session this Saturday at Wyndham City Rugby Club, as part of the TAC’s on the road with the Rebels initiative.
The day will kick off with the Rebels hosting a player meet and greet at 10 am, with the Victorian community getting their first opportunity to rub shoulders with All Black Matt Proctor, Wallaby Lukhan Salakaia-Loto and Australian U20’s star, Darby Lancaster.
Following this, the Rebels and the Victorian Axemen will take part in a joint training session from 11:15 am - 12:30 pm in preparation for next Saturday’s Victorian Club Series clash at Harlequin Rugby Club (more information to come).
There will be face painting, passing targets, prizes and giveaways including a corporate box and a signed Rebels jersey.
More to come.
