Anaru Rangi is a bone-rattling hooker and natural leader, who has become a consistent performer and mainstay in the Melbourne Rebels' front row. Rangi has managed 39 appearances in four years of playing Super Rugby, and has emerged as one of the premier rakes of Australian Rugby.
Born in Wellington, New Zealand, Rangi made the move to Australia to develop his rugby career, and eventually forced his way into the NRC for the Perth Sprit side in 2015 to emerge as a first-choice front-rower.
Rangi was part of the Perth Spirit's first ever NRC championship win, playing as a hooker in WA side's historic run to a championship. Rangi also signed his first ever Super Rugby contract with the Western Force, where he managed five appearances in his debut year.
In 2017, the hooker managed four appearances for the Western Force, in what proved to be the Club's final season in Super Rugby.
Rangi was recognised by NRC Head Coach Kevin Foote during his time in Perth, and was subsequently announced as Vice-Captain of the Spirit for 2017.
Following nine appearances for the Western Force between 2016-17, Rangi signed with the Melbourne Rebels for two season in 2018.
Rangi immediately nailed down a spot in the Club's front row, and played in all 16 games for the season. Rangi capped off his breakout 2018 Super Rugby season claiming the Melbourne Rebels’ Player’s Player Award, crowned as the Club's most valuable player.
2019 was another fruitful year for Rangi, with the powerful hooker playing 14 games for the Club, with his throwing in the Rebels line-out a standout. Rangi's ability to provide accurate throws helped the Club's set-piece work from touch finish the year as the second best in the competition. Rangi was also rewarded with a two-year contract renewal, tying him to the Club until the end of 2021.
