Matt Gibbon is a prop who hails from Shute Shield side Southern Districts and has also played for the NSW Country Eagles in the NRC.
Gibbon has become one of the Melbourne Rebels' first-choice front rowers after earning a Super Rugby contract with the Club following an impressive showing at preseason trials as a Shute Shield player.
Gibbon is extremely competitive, and while he may not have the junior pedigree as other front rowers in the competition, Gibbon has the ability to go head to head against any loosehead prop with his dogged determination and solid stature.
Gibbon earned a spot in the 2019 Rebels Squad after being a part of a large group of state players who were invited down to Melbourne to trial for a Super Rugby contract during the preseason. Gibbon immediately impressed Rebels coaching staff with his work ethic, to not only be offered a spot on the playing list, but to also be selected in the Round 1 side to face the Brumbies at GIO Stadium.
The front rower enjoyed a remarkable debut year by playing in all 16 games and being subsequently awarded the 'Spirit of the Weary Dunlop' award. Gibbon was also invited to join the Wallabies' training camp before the 2019 The Rugby Championship competition.
