Ruan Smith joins the Melbourne Rebels for the 2020 season boasting a swath of Super Rugby experience, over a career which now spans nine seasons.
A solid and uncompromising front rower, Smith will look to be a ready made replacement to cover the departure of Wallaby-capped prop Tetera Faulkner.
Originally from Vryburg, South Africa, Smith along with his twin brother Jean-Pierre, moved to Brisbane at 16 years of age to pursue a career in rugby.
In 2012, Smith signed with the Western Force where he made two appearances, making his debut in Round 17 against the Blues.
At the end of the season, Smith announced he would join the Brumbies ahead of the 2013 season.
At the end of the 2017 season and following 51 appearances across four seasons with the Brumbies, Smith announced he would join the Sunwolves. While he initially signed with the Japanese franchise, Smith was released to return back to Australia on compassionate grounds due to his mother falling ill, and the prop subsequently signed with the Reds.
Following 27 appearances and two seasons with the Reds, Smith left Queensland to sign with the Melbourne Rebels, which will be Smith's fourth Super Rugby Club.
