Player Bio:

Talakai began his senior career as a key contributor for a dominant Sydney University program before heading north to play for National Rugby Championship side Brisbane City, under Head Coach Nick Stiles in 2014.

Talakai’s impressive form would soon lead to selection with the Queensland Reds, where he went on to play 40 matches over three years before travelling south and joining the Rebels for the 2018 season.

Over the next three seasons Talakai would make 31 appearances for the Rebels, playing a crucial role in the young Club’s development on and off the field.

After a successful stint with Suntory Sungoliath in Japan’s Rugby League One from 2019 until 2022, Sam rejoined the Rebels for the 2023 Super Rugby Pacific Season.

Talakai has played over 160 senior games across two countries and brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the Melbourne Rebels.
