The Melbourne Rebels Super W have officially unveiled their 37-woman squad for the upcoming Super W season.

Alana Thomas’s side will enter 2022 possessing a wealth of Super Rugby experience with 26 players returning from last year’s campaign. This includes Wallaroos’ starsJade Te Aute, Georgia Cormick, Tiarah Minns and Ashley Marsters while reigning Rebels’ Super W Player of the Year, Mel Kawa will lead the Rebels for a third consecutive season.

Melbourne will compliment this valuable experience by promoting eleven new players, including Tangata Tupou, Claire Ryan, Seiloga Taisi and the athletic Abigail Curtin.

As the Club prepares to embark on its fifth year of Super W competition, the Rebels will be looking to build on last year’s momentum following impressive performances against the Queensland Reds and ACT Brumbies at Coffs Harbour.

After a disrupted pair of pre-seasons, the Rebels Super W has enjoyed a rewarding offseason training at the Rebels’ world class ICS High Performance facilities, something Melbourne Rebels Super W Head Coach Alana Thomas believes will pay dividends once the season begins.

“What’s impressed me the most about this year’s squad has been our players driving our standards higher than previous years and embracing every opportunity presented to them to be better,” said Thomas.

“Our collective focus has been about converting opportunities every day, and every session is an opportunity to be better and that’s something we’ve carried through all pre-season.

“Our players are also stronger than previous years which is a credit to their commitment, drive and the access to the new gym at Rebels HQ which has been great.”

With the 2022 Super W draw set to be finalised shortly, the Melbourne Rebels Super W will begin their new campaign with a trial match against the Brumbies W at Greenfield Park on Saturday, Feb 12.
