Top Teammates with Reece Hodge

This week in our Money Lab Top Teammate series, Reece Hodge shines the spotlight on the Rebels that shaped the player he is today.

Jordy Reid

Anyone who has ever played with Jordy will tell you he’s one of their greatest ever teammates.

He’s someone that’s willing to run through a brick wall for the team on the field, and also one of the most selfless guys you’ll meet off the field.

He made his rugby career out of big hits, back to back efforts and long runs but what is most special about him is the way he helps guys out away from rugby.

I remember my first week down in Melbourne back in 2015 - my apartment wasn’t quite ready to move into, so Jordy let me stay on his couch for a few days and took time out of his week to show me around the city.

There are countless times over the years that he’s done similar and gone above and beyond for his teammates, new and old.

Not to mention how many rounds he’s shouted over the years 🍺

Love ya Jord!

Tamati Ellison

Tamz was a world-class centre and one of those guys who would run his body into the ground for the team without complaining for a second.

Playing alongside him, you had such supreme confidence that he’d do his job and allow you to concentrate on yours for the whole game.

He led with his actions on the field but was also a really nurturing presence for a lot of the younger, inexperienced backs including myself and guys like Sione Tuipulotu.

A true gentleman of the game and someone I respect and admire greatly!

I also think I have a soft spot for him as he set up both of my tries on debut and gave them to me on a silver platter!

Tom English

Engo is now the most capped Rebel of all time and I think he embodies everything that’s great about our club.

He’s a serious talent on the field - I’ve never seen someone so unorthodox but so effective in everything he does - and a really competitive guy that would do anything for his teammates and the team.

He has been the off-field leader of the club for a number of years now and puts in an unbelievable amount of time surplus to training and playing to ensure that the players and staff are as tight-knitas possible!

I can’t wait to see him raise the bat with 100 Rebels Caps hopefully in front of a full stockade.

He bleeds red, white and blue!

Culum Retallick

Can’t go past an honourable mention for the big man known as “Guzzle”.

Wise beyond his years and a source of plenty of laughs and outstanding one-liners over the 2016 and 2017 seasons.
